About Cheadle Hulme

Family home in Cheadle Hulme

Cheadle Hulme is one of Stockport’s most popular suburbs, around two miles from Stockport town centre and eight miles from Manchester. It has a lively village centre around Station Road, a strong choice of schools and one of the best rail links in the area.

The local property market offers a mix of detached and semi-detached family homes, Victorian villas and period properties, and modern apartments close to the station. We see steady demand from families looking for good schools, commuters who want a direct train into Manchester, and downsizers moving closer to the village shops. If you’re thinking about selling your home in Cheadle Hulme, that demand works in your favour.

A Short History of Cheadle Hulme

Unlike many villages, Cheadle Hulme didn’t grow up around a single church or manor. It developed from a cluster of rural hamlets in the Ladybrook Valley, beside the Micker Brook, and stayed largely agricultural until the railway arrived in the 19th century.

The railway and the growth of Manchester turned it into a commuter village, first with Victorian villas and then with large areas of 20th-century housing. Some much older timber-framed buildings survive, particularly in the Swann Lane, Hulme Hall Road and Hill Top Avenue conservation area. Today around 26,000 people live in Cheadle Hulme.
