The Bramhall High School rebuild is big news for the village this month, and if you’ve got children at secondary school age (or heading that way), it’s news you’ll want to know about.
Construction firm Willmott Dixon has been appointed by the Department for Education to deliver a £46 million new school, with work starting on site in October 2026. It’s one of the biggest investments our village has seen in years, and it’s one that’s close to home for us.

What’s included in the Bramhall High School rebuild?
The plans are for a brand new three-storey school covering over 9,000 square metres, designed by architects Sheppard Robson. It will serve 11 to 16 year olds and, importantly, will include specialist provision for pupils with special educational needs.
Six of the existing school blocks will be demolished once the new building is up and running, with one single-storey block being kept and remodelled. Around the building itself, there will be new sports facilities, car parking, fencing and landscaping.
A greener school for Bramhall
Solar panels, ground source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points are all part of the specification. That’s good news for running costs, good news for the planet, and a nice example for the next generation.
Will the school stay open during the build?
Yes, and this is the bit most parents will ask about first. Bramhall High will stay open and operate as normal throughout the entire build. The contractor has been working with the school, the DfE and Stockport Council, who own the site, since May 2025 to plan how to build a new school around a working one without disrupting lessons.
After a difficult period for the school caused by RAAC concrete, this is a genuinely positive turning point, and one the whole community can get behind.
Key dates for your diary
- October 2026: Construction begins
- August 2028: New school building complete, ready for the new academic year
- September 2029: Whole site finished, including demolition and external works
If your child is currently in Year 5 or Year 6 at one of Bramhall’s primary schools, there’s a very good chance they’ll be walking into a brand new building for a big chunk of their secondary education.

It’s not just about the building. Willmott Dixon has committed to prioritising spending with local businesses and creating local job opportunities during the build. They’ll also deliver more than 400 hours of engagement with pupils, including work experience, skills sessions and trade placements.
That’s exactly the kind of thing we love to see. Bramhall has always been a village that looks after its own, and it’s great to see a project of this size giving something back beyond bricks and mortar.
What does the rebuild mean for the Bramhall property market?
